We finished up our Chester the Raccoon series by reading “A Kiss Goodbye” today. Students were challenged with a STEM activity where they had to create a new home for Chester. The kiddos came up with their own criteria and constraints. Their home had to have a door, a roof, and furniture. They had to complete the challenge within 15 minutes, work with a buddy, and they were allowed to use any materials they could find within our room. It was so fun seeing them wear their engineer and design hats. I loved listening to their collaborative conversations and seeing their trial and error processes. We learned about the importance of prototypes and testing out products before implementation. I think they did a fine job! Chester Raccoon would be lucky to live in any of these houses. 🏠 🦝⚙️
- Mrs. Kristen (First Grade)

Intro to Business students learned about web ethics and Internet safety this week, then worked in pairs to create a skit that they performed in front of their classmates. Not only did they have to think of a scenario to act out, they also had to come up with a solution to the problem and share ways to prevent these real life scenarios from happening to themselves and their friends. They all did a great job!

Senior Class - meeting for students and parents on Aug 19 @ 6 PM.

Today, the final section of concrete was poured for our brand-new 3,360 sq. ft. Small Animal Barn — a perfect complement to our existing 9,600 sq. ft. Large Animal Barn. 🐐🐄
This expansion means even more opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and gain hands-on experience in animal science. We can’t wait to see the amazing things they’ll accomplish here! #CougarNation #AgEducation

We are excited to announce new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) opportunities for our fifth and sixth grade students this year! All fifth and sixth grade students will have a STEM class taught by Kayla Lamar every day this year. We will also offer introduction to computer science at the 5th and 6th grade level each week taught by Amy Boles during our fifth and sixth grade WIN. Mrs. Boles is computer science certified and teaches engineering at the high school level for us.
This is an incredible opportunity for our students to explore STEM concepts at an earlier age, build problem-solving skills, and spark curiosity in fields that are shaping the future. By starting now, our students will have a strong foundation for advanced coursework in junior high and high school—opening doors to even more exciting possibilities down the road!

Congratulations to the following Izard County STEM High School students who made outstanding scores on their recent AP Biology exam: Rico Cruz (4), Harrison Oss (4), Cash Arnhart (3), Carson Mahan (3)
All of them will be eligible for college credit based on their scores. The Advanced Placement (AP) courses are developed and administered by the College Board, a national organization used by K-12 schools, to promote college-readiness as part of the college admissions process. As reported by College Board, only 28% of AP Biology students nationwide received a score of 3 this year, with only 24% receiving a score of 4. Izard County is proud to report 22% in each score category, just below the national average.
ICC STEM students enrolled in AP Biology also receive 4 hours of concurrent college credit in General Biology through Ozarka College. AP Biology is taught by Rachel Faulkner, who has 35 years of teaching experience and leads the Biomedical Sciences program at ICC STEM HS.

Just a few of our teachers with their new Izard County STEM Schools backpacks and t-shirts. Have a great year, Cougars!

IC STEM Kindergarten-Sixth grade teachers had the privilege to attend an Amplify Science PD session instructed by Amplify's Josie Flores. K-5 teachers are excited to implement Amplify Science, identified as a High Quality Instructional Material by the Arkansas Department of Education. This phenomenon-based, hands-on science curriculum supports our district's STEM Mission and Vision and completes our district's goal of having High Quality Instructional Materials across all subject areas!

Exciting news from Izard County STEM School! Eve Hatman, Ashley Johnson, and Rebecca Norton collaborated to secure a $4,000 Ag for Autism grant to help create a sensory room for students with sensory needs.
Ag for Autism is a nonprofit alliance of agriculture businesses and community partners working to support autism education and therapy in rural Arkansas. Since 2012, they’ve awarded over $1 million to help children thrive in school and beyond.
Thanks to this grant, students will soon have access to a calming, supportive sensory space designed to promote focus, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. We're so grateful for the opportunity to make this vision a reality!
