Congrats to Izard County High School for being recognized by the Arkansas Department of Education recently for being among the top 6-10 percent of schools in the state in student achievement growth and graduation rate! The district has been awarded $9,650 by the ADE in recognition of this award! Great job, students, parents, and staff!

The Cougars defeated Neelyville (MO), 61-51, in the opening round of the Battle of the Border Tournament at Mammoth Spring. The Cougars were led by Gabe Spray with 25 points. Keaton Melton added 17 and Sebastian Robbins 10. The Cougars advance to the semifinals on Thursday at 8:15 PM.

The Izard County Jr High Quiz Bowl Team earned 2nd Place at the Highland Holiday Invitational Tournament, compiling the following 5 - 1 record:
Game 1: ICC 295-Mountain Home 235
Game 2: ICC 325-Annie Camp 140
Game 3: ICC 190-Westside Jonesboro 320
Game 4: ICC 205-Batesville 185
Game 5: ICC 340-Highland 195
Game 6: ICC 315-Melbourne 165
Evan Cole averaged 7 toss up questions per game, Ian Bear contributed 5 per game, and Alex Millington chipped in 3 per game. Congratulations on a great start to the season!


Congratulations to Tabby Cooper for becoming the 10th National Board Certified Teacher in our school district history. The others are TaKara Kinion, Kensey Wheat, Chelsea Phillips, Courtney Selph, Tony Booth, Vicky Norton, Meredith Cole, Eve Hatman, and retired teacher Hugh Chapman. Kensey Wheat and TaKara Kinion recertified as NBC teachers. We are very proud of the accomplishments of Tabby, TaKara, and Kensey, and all our NBC teachers for the shining examples they are for our staff and students and their work in following our district motto of “Every student. Every day. Whatever it takes."

The Izard County Cougars mercy-ruled the Highland Rebels, 64-37, to advance to the finals of the Izard County Invitational Tournament hosted by Highland. The top seeded Cougars (3-1) were led by Gabe Spray with 22 points and Keaton Melton with 15. Jude Everett chipped in 9 points.

The Izard County Lady Cougars upset the Mountain View Lady Yellowjackets, 69-67, in the semifinals of the Izard County Invitational Tournament hosted by Highland. Quinn Johnson led the Lady Cougars (5-2) with 36 points. Olivia Spray added 15 and Makensie Yancey 10 for the Lady Cougars.

The ICC Senior Class has extended ticket sales for the Spartan Mower Fundraiser from January 19 to January 26! The winner will now be announced at Senior Night. If you would like to make a donation and be entered into the drawing for the Spartan Mower, please see any ICC Senior student or email: amanda.brewer@iccougars.org. You can also stop by the designated table at home basketball games in December and January.

The Izard County Junior Lady Cougars defeated the Melbourne Junior Lady Bearkatz, 51-38, in the consolation round of the Izard County Invitational Tournament hosted by Highland. Kallie Skidmore led the Junior Lady Cougars with 22 points and Trinity Gaskins added 13.

Junior girls are playing Friday at Mount Vernon-Enola instead of junior boys. Junior boys will be playing in county tournament semis Friday night at 5:15 vs. Flippin. Junior Boys will now play instead of Junior Girls vs. Mt. Vernon-Enola at home on January 16.
The Izard County Cougars rallied from a 34-24 halftime to defeat the Marshall Bobcats, 70-63. The Cougars (2-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference) outscored the Bobcats 23-5 in the third quarter and then held on for the win. Gabe Spray scored 32 for the Cougars. Kasen Black added 15 and Keaton Melton 9 for the Cougars. The Bobcats are ranked second in the state in 2A this week in the Arkansas Sports Media poll.
The Izard County Lady Cougars defeated the Marshall Lady Bobcats, 71-59. The Lady Cougars (4-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference) were led by Quinn Johnson with 29 points and Olivia Spray added 15. Tinley Bailey chipped in 13 and Makensie Yancey 9 for the Lady Cougars.
The Junior Cougars defeated the Junior Bobcats 58-16. The Junior Cougars (7-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference) were led by Aaron Dockins with 18 points. Braxton McCandlis added 17 and Kade Yancey 14 for the Junior Cougars.
